“Birgitta Flick’s saxophone voice soars, as if winged, into the highest regions.” – Wolfgang Gratzer, Jazzpodium

“This therefore means using the whole range of possible forms of expression and accepting it as an opportunity of creating tonality, free tonality, clusters and picturesque harmonies, extrovert actions and also measured acting. If she herself is to describe her own stylistic features, terms like impulsiveness, ecstacies, extreme contrasts, existing fully now and here, intensity, turn up.” – Ljubisa Tosic on Sylvia Bruckner

Birgitta Flick – Flick/Bruckner
– Improvisation in Dialogue –

Sylvia Bruckner is a pianist, composer and sound explorer. With a distinctive style that combines eruptive energy and subtle sensitivity, she crosses boundaries between free jazz, contemporary music and experimental rock. She is one of the leading figures of the Austrian improvisation scene and has worked internationally with musicians such as John Butcher, Hamid Drake, Joëlle Léandre and Tony Buck. Whether in solo performances or close collaborations, Bruckner creates music that challenges, touches and surprises with its richness and depth.

The duo was born at a session in Berlin, where Bruckner and Birgitta Flick – together with drummer Willi Kellers – spontaneously formed an ensemble. Years later they met again in Vienna, and since then they have shared a passion for improvising, for discovering sonic connections and details that only reveal themselves in the moment.

As a duo, they open spaces of exploration and discovery: saxophone and piano meet with keen attentiveness, weaving fragile details with powerful gestures and continually opening up new connections. Their music is in constant transformation – improvising, searching, alive.

Thus the duo sets the stage for the festival’s final evening – with music that emerges, transforms and continually finds new paths.
