“Birgitta Flick sometimes has that gentle flow of old age, that serenity that is usually attributed to a lifetime of experience.” – Ralf Dombrowski, Jazzthing

Birgitta Flick – Sound adventures between Berlin, Stockholm and New York

She is one of the most exciting voices in European jazz – and at the same time still an insider tip: Berlin saxophonist and composer Birgitta Flick impresses with a musical language that is profound, poetic and full of surprises. Her composition PlanetWomen has just been nominated for the German Jazz Award 2025 – so it’s about time to (re)discover this fascinating artist!

Educated at the Berlin Jazz Institute and the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, Birgitta has been travelling the world for years. She leads her own ensembles in Berlin, Stockholm and New York, writes for choirs, chamber ensembles and jazz bands, and composes interdisciplinary works for audiovisual performances. She is a true seeker, constantly exploring and reshaping sound.

Whether in trio with James Banner and Max Andrzejewski, as part of the band UNIQUE (which you can catch on the first evening of the rejazz-festival) or as the long-standing artistic director of the InSpirit series at Berlin’s Gedächtniskirche: Birgitta Flick is an absolute inspiration, a true surprise, and a fantastic connector!

The final evening of the 2025 Rejazz Festival is going to be absolutely amazing! Birgitta will be meeting the fantastic pianist Antje Rößeler in a duo to enjoy a musical conversation between freedom and form between two of the finest minds on the scene.
