Evi Filippou

vibraphone, percussion, vocals, composition

“Percussion and more” it says on Evi Filippou’s website. It should actually say ‘much more’ – because the Greek percussionist’s playing and spectrum are spectacular.” – Henry Altmann, NDR

Born in Greece in 1993, percussionist and vibraphonist Evi Filippou began her musical training in classical music. But after moving to Berlin in 2011, she soon found herself drawn to freer realms: jazz, improvisation, expression. Today, she’s regarded as one of Europe’s most exciting musicians — genre-defying, virtuosic, uncompromising. Her music fuses classical craft with experimental playfulness, contemporary composition with jazzy freedom, and Greek roots with international energy.

Whether performing as a soloist, with orchestras and ensembles like the Bolshoi Ballet Orchestra or Ensemble United Berlin, in duos with artists such as Katerina Fotinaki or Robert Lucaciu, or in dialogue with jazz luminaries like Angelika Niescier, Chris Dahlgren, or Hayden Chisholm—Evi thrives wherever curiosity, sound and movement meet.

As a founding member of Opera Lab Berlin and a collaborator with groups like Rimini Protokoll and the n ï m Dance Company by Naïma Mazic, she also shapes the scene at the intersection of music, theatre, and performance. In 2024, she premiered a new work with the NDR Bigband — a major milestone in her career.

At the rejazz-festival, Evi brings her now-expanded sextet inEvitable extended to the stage: six voices, one pulsating cosmos—bursting with energy, depth, and unexpected turns. Their debut album was honored with the German Jazz Prize in 2023.

When Evi Filippou takes the stage, it’s a celebration. There’s no better way to close out this year’s rejazz-festival than with inEvitable extended on November 22, 2025.
